TIERS FOR ENROLMENT

NEXT START –

DUE TO THE EFFECTS OF COVID-19 DIPLOMA COURSE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Each completed academic year rewards each student with a qualification, starting with Lifestyle Consultant and Therapist in the first year. After two years of study, we award an additional Nutritionist and Herbalist qualification. Three years of continuous work will qualify a student as a full Ayurvedic practitioner, which corresponds with a university degree level qualification in Ayurvedic Medicine.

What’s special about the course?

Our curriculum is designed to create confident graduates, able to deliver high quality service based on competency in the field of Ayurveda as well as in other related therapies, such as applied anatomy, Western nutrition and the Gut-Brain connection. We have integrated these therapies into the traditional Ayurvedic curriculum so that our graduates will be able to cater to the needs and expectations of the modern, informed client. Students will analyse the safety and efficacy of health management techniques from both the ayurvedic and mainstream bio-medical points of view.

Course days

The course will take place every Monday and Tuesday for the first two years and Thursday and Friday on the third year. Study hours extend from 9am to 4.30pm, including two three-hour sessions for each subject taught.

Year one – Lifestyle Consultant and Therapist

The focus of Ayurvedic healing is on correct diet and lifestyle. Prescription of ideal food and activities is the cornerstone of Ayurvedic counselling. Lifestyle Consultants are able to identify underlying dietary imbalances and correct them by finding individualised solutions that fit clients’ lifestyle. Lifestyle consultants are also able to advise on ideal activities, which will increase wellbeing and maximise energy efficiency. This includes recommendations regarding proper sleep patterns, as well as about the right kind of exercise and yoga practices.  Our Lifestyle Consultants will be encouraged to emphasize routine, as a proper routine will help increase vitality, destress, prevent injuries, and maintain optimal performance in all tissues.

The correct, Ayurvedically-designed diet and lifestyle will give a client vast advantages. As these techniques approach the body and mind from a holistic point of view, they are catalysts for the body’s innate ability to self-heal, and are appropriate for all ages to treat stress, fatigue, chronic pain, and myriad other complex conditions.

An Ayurvedic Therapist is trained to assess body types and administer an appropriate treatment or technique for ongoing care of the client. They will know how to appropriately use herbal medicated oils and other herbal preparations during treatments. They will also be able to understand the role of muscle fascia and how to administer various techniques of soft tissue manipulation. In this way, the therapist can remedy a variety of imbalances such as back pain, Repetitive Strain Injury, whiplash, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, among others.  All the techniques of massage we teach aim to achieve a steady and comfortable flow of prana, the energetic force that governs all activity in both body and mind. A good therapist will be able to tune in and channel prana.

From a holistic Ayurvedic point of view, our overall focus as Lifestyle Consultants and Therapists will be to harness prana, which in turn will bring back the innate self-healing potential of the body.  The mind-body has an astonishing ability to change patterns of behaviour and re-establish a state of strong health and vitality.

There will be considerable theory and practical training on site, but students are also required to undertake home study assignments, especially in the form of case studies

Year two – Ayurvedic Nutritionist and Herbalist

It is commonly known that the majority of illnesses start in the gut. An Ayurvedic Nutritionist and Herbalist will learn the powerful effect that food items and ingested herbs have on human tissues and behaviour.

All food items and herbs can be considered either medicinal or toxic, depending on their application. Ayurvedic Nutritionists will be able to identify the right kind of diet for a person’s body type and health status, in order to make food nourishing and medicinal.  According to Ayurveda, nourishing and medicinal equals organic, local and seasonal.

Ayurvedic Nutritionists will learn that the degree of nourishment, as well as the degree of toxicity that a person receives from food is based on his or her individual digestive capacity. Nutritionists know how to identify and work with these different capacities, as well as treat the most common digestive disorders. Nutrition graduates will also able to develop individualised meal and lifestyle plans to awaken health, growth, and restoration. Diet will be explored emphasising its functionality and naturalness at all times, rather than caloric or specific nutritional content. A deep dive into gastro-intestinal anatomy, physiology and pathology will guarantee our candidates a thorough understanding of the gut and its influence on health and disease, especially on immunity, hormone function and reproduction.

In addition to the practical application of dietary changes, candidates will also learn the role of the mind in determining digestive strength and will be able to use mindfulness and other cognitive exercises to achieve optimal digestion in their clients. They will understand how foods and herbs create certain feelings in the mind-body, which are very helpful in determining a healing protocol. The overall goal is to empower clients to take responsibility for their own health by establishing a desire for change and helping them overcome barriers to change.

This advanced level course offers also a chance to understand the latest scientific advancements in Western nutrition.

There will be considerable theory and practical training on site but candidates are also required to undertake home study assignments.

Year three – Ayurvedic practitioner

The Ayurvedic Practitioner diploma is awarded after successful completion of the three-year program that covers the integrated system of traditional Ayurveda, other aligned alternative therapies paired with a sufficient amount of Western bio-medicine to be able to communicate the ayurvedic process of diagnosis, therapy and prognosis in a shared language. The graduates will also be eligible to enrol in an internship program in India at the end of the course.

Ayurvedic practitioners trained through our course will be leaders in integrative health care, possessing a unique combination of skills from Eastern and Western traditions.  Modules in Internal Medicine prepare graduates to be able to effectively treat chronic lifestyle disorders such as auto-immune illnesses, chronic pain, obesity and related complications.

The third year will focus on developing students’ skills in counceling through spiritual healing. The students will become familiar with deeper philosophical aspects of Vedic healing and acquaint themselves with classical text of Ashtanga Hrdayam. Lastly, Ayurvedic healing is based on understanding the relationship with the environment and for this purpose the graduates will investigate the nature of this interaction through concepts of deep ecology.

There is a great need for alternative healing practitioners like those we will train, in a world increasingly plagued with chronic illnesses which often fail to respond to allopathic treatment. Practicing ayurvedic medicine is highly satisfying because it is a system based on the strengths rather than weaknesses in any healing scenario. It is an evidence-based medicine that has stood the test of thousands of years of sophisticated practice. Ayurveda is timeless and universal and its principles can be exported from India to the West with full authenticity. Our courses will deliver skills in applying ancient knowledge in modern context by offering high standard education by industry specialists.

Anu Paavola, B. Sc (Hons) Ayurveda, MAPA

Anu is the founder of Jivita Academy of Ayurveda. She has been involved in education in Finland already when studying in the university of Helsinki in the Nineties. The real passion for teaching was inspired by her turn of career from language studies to ayurveda. Anu realised soon that to get results with clients they needed fundamental education on basic healthy living. Ayurveda is mainly about self-care and most of the times clients need help in understanding what is in their power to do.

Having started teaching in a yoga teacher training school called Yoga London in 2010 she developed her interest in education and launched Jivita Academy of Ayurveda to respond to the high demand of quality courses with hands on approach for therapists and nutritionists.

Two main courses are offered by the academy at the moment: a 200h intensive training for therapists and a full 1000h diploma course for therapists and nutritionist. The latter is also a foundation course for 3000h ayurvedic practitioner qualification.

The passion in education in also visible in client work. Anu is passionate about translating ancient wisdom of healing into modern context. She empowers her clients to take charge of their own health by increasing awareness in nutrition based on their individual needs. Incorporating her twenty years of practice and teaching of yoga Anu’s approach to healing is almost unique to anywhere in London or UK.

Anu has created a community of enthusiasts by teaching that health in its right form brings about joy in life. Healing and recovering in her opinion do not exclude fun and enjoyment but are an extension of balanced and abundant life.
