At its core, Ayurveda teaches us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. This harmony is not merely a poetic ideal, it refers to a sustained sense of safety and ease felt within the bodymind. By rhythms, I’m referring to the natural cycles governed by the sun: the alternation of day and night, and the progression of the seasons.

The foundation of well-being in Ayurveda rests on two key principles: dinacharya (daily routine) and ritucharya (seasonal routine). These observances guide us in aligning our lives with the energetic qualities of each time of day and season. By honouring these cycles, we move in sync with nature, rather than against it, restoring balance, resilience, and a deeper sense of connection within ourselves.

But what does it truly mean to connect with nature? Is it about moving to the countryside, practicing forest bathing or walking barefoot on the earth? While these are beautiful and enriching experiences, they often offer only fleeting moments of connection.

Ayurveda invites us to cultivate a continuous relationship with nature, one that remains steady regardless of where we are. This connection is not dependent on location, but on rhythm. By aligning our daily lives with the cycles of nature, the rising and setting of the sun, the changing seasons, we enter into a profound synchronicity with the world around us.

This process, known as entrainment, allows our internal clocks to harmonise with nature’s greater rhythms. It’s a powerful, accessible way to feel deeply connected, especially for those living in urban environments who crave a sense of grounding.

The benefits of entrainment are profound and far-reaching. When we pace our daily activities in alignment with natural rhythms, we allow the body’s internal clocks to harmonise with one another. Consider this: each of the approximately 10 trillion cells in our body has its own clock gene. For optimal functioning, these clocks must keep time together.

Imagine an orchestra of 10 trillion instruments, each playing at a different tempo and pitch. That’s not music, but cacophony. But when those instruments tune to the same rhythm, the result is harmony. In the same way, when our internal rhythms align, we create the physiological conditions for well-being.

The generosity of Mother Nature in offering well-being becomes a lived, tangible experience when entrainment is achieved. As our internal rhythms align with those of the natural world, a quiet transformation begins. Life starts to feel more unified, rooted in a deep sense of belonging, not only to oneself, but to something greater: to community, to humanity, and even to the cosmos.

Remarkably, this sense of connection is not elusive or abstract. It begins with something simple and accessible: the timing of our daily actions. By aligning with nature’s rhythms, we open the door to harmony, presence, and a profound sense of being at home in the world.

Timing our actions, eating, sleeping, moving, resting, according to these innate rhythms enables the bodymind system to function with maximum efficiency. This alignment enhances our capacity for self-regulation, or in other words, our ability to heal. With the body operating in sync, symptoms such as pain, inflammation, hormonal imbalance, autoimmune responses, and even chronic fatigue become more manageable and, in many cases, begin to improve. Entraining ourselves to nature’s rhythm is not just preventative; it is deeply therapeutic.

Discover the art of true connection through Ayurveda.
Join us for a special Friday evening gathering with Dylan Smith, world-renowned Ayurvedic practitioner and the owner of Vital Veda, for an immersive exploration of the healing effects of sound and vibration.

Sound has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic and yogic traditions as a powerful tool for restoring balance and supporting wellbeing. In this inspiring and accessible talk, Dylan will share how sound influences the nervous system, emotions, and subtle energy of the body. Drawing on both ancient wisdom and contemporary practice, he will explore how sound can be used to calm the mind, release tension, and promote a deeper sense of harmony and resilience in daily life.

Following the talk, participants will be guided into a deeply restorative crystal bowl sound bath. The pure, resonant tones of the crystal bowls create a meditative soundscape that supports deep relaxation and integration. This experiential session offers an opportunity to move from understanding into direct experience, allowing the body and mind to absorb the healing qualities of sound on a profound level.

This evening is designed as a gentle yet meaningful way to unwind at the end of the week, combining learning, reflection and embodied experience. No prior knowledge of Ayurveda or sound healing is required. Simply come as you are, with an openness to rest, listen, and receive.

This event is suitable for anyone interested in wellbeing, Ayurveda, sound healing, meditation, or stress relief.

The signature detox program of Ayurveda

Panchakarma procedures are prescribed for two reasons: for those who want to recover from long standing chronic disease and those wanting to rejuvenate and boost health.

Ayurvedic practices aim at eradicating diseases all together, not just managing them. However, if a condition cannot be cured, Ayurvedic healing will help improve the quality of life. Particularly conditions that require change of lifestyle and discontinuation of bad habits are well addressed with panchakarma routines. As clients go through an empowering learning journey they can carry over their learnings to their home lives.

Panchakarma has also been traditionally carried out preventatively. Especially during the change of seasons, its purpose is to help avoid seasonal disorders. It is also carried out for rejuvenative purposes for higher stamina and resilience.

These are fundamental to staying healthy particularly before and after a panchakarma program.

Soon after establishing her clinical practice she realised that often clients required basic but fundamental education on healthy living. Ayurveda is directed towards self-care and many clients often require help in understanding what is within their control. It highlights issues that have most likely brought them to a state of imbalance or ill health. Anu passionately believes that healing should be a journey of self-discovery bringing lasting insights. All of this can be discovered through programs such as panchakarma.

Anu loves being creative in applying ancient wisdom of healing into modern context. She empowers her clients to take charge of their own health by increasing awareness in nutrition based on their individual needs. Incorporating her fifteen years of practice and teaching of yoga Anu’s approach to healing is almost unique to anywhere in London or the UK.

This means returning to a state of balance by activating the bodymind’s inherent intelligence, shaped by our unique constitution and supported through the right diet, lifestyle, herbal remedies, body therapies, and gentle detoxification.

The ultimate aim is to guide each individual back to homeostasis, a dynamic state of internal balance and wellbeing, even amidst life’s external fluctuations. It is in this state that we feel truly safe, grounded, and at ease.

This self-regulating intelligence is governed largely by the autonomic nervous system (ANS), the system that quietly oversees vital functions beyond our conscious control. When we feel secure, the ANS operates harmoniously. But under persistent stress, it shifts into fight-or-flight mode, a helpful adaptation in the short term, yet deeply depleting when prolonged. Chronic stress weakens the body’s resilience and gives rise to systemic inflammation and imbalance.

The most effective way to recalibrate the nervous system is through immersive rest: time in nature, therapeutic touch through massage, and the nourishment of seasonal, dosha-balancing food and herbs. All of these elements are woven into the fabric of our retreat environment.

Here, in this carefully held space, we offer more than just relaxation. We create the conditions for profound healing to unfold.

Why stay in UK and not go abroad?

For the body to cleanse effectively, it must first feel safe, relaxed, and deeply at ease. While a luxurious retreat abroad may offer comfort on the surface, several factors can quietly disrupt the delicate internal balance required for detoxification: long travel, unfamiliar climates, changes in microbial exposure, and the effects of jet lag.

This is why it is strongly recommended to reserve time for acclimatisation both before and after an overseas cleanse. Without this buffer, many clients find the benefits of their detox quickly diminish upon returning home. True detoxification, especially when it aims to re-establish a sustainable daily rhythm, requires stability, continuity, and familiarity. The turbulence of travel can easily undermine the integration of new habits and healing gains.

In many cases, undertaking a detox as close to home as possible proves to be a more effective and enduring choice. A local program allows for greater consistency, easier transition into post-detox life, and a more seamless adoption of the dietary and lifestyle changes introduced during the cleanse.

Indeed, the aftercare of a enhanced Panchakarma or detox program is just as vital as the treatment itself. This phase should be a time of gentle re-strengthening of fortifying the body and mind on a deeper level. When followed properly, it enhances resilience and sets the foundation for long-term vitality. However, post-detox travel, especially long-haul, can significantly disrupt this process, reintroducing stress and weakening the body’s natural defences just as they are being rebuilt.

The initial assessment of one’s toxicity levels and overall strength should guide the choice of detox location and intensity. In cases of long-standing or complex health conditions, an overseas retreat may still be appropriate, but it is crucial to build in adequate time for preparation and recovery, ideally with a full week of rest both before and after the core treatment.

When detox is done with full attention to context, care, and timing, it becomes not just a temporary cleanse, but a gateway to sustained wellbeing. Ignoring these considerations, however, increases the risk of regression and makes it harder for the body to truly reset.

"}},{"@type":"Question
With which conditions can panchakarma assist?
@type":"Answer

Panchakarma is Ayurveda’s most profound method of restoring balance and rejuvenating the entire psychophysical system. It addresses the root causes of imbalance, not merely symptoms, and offers a pathway toward either complete healing or significantly improved management of chronic conditions, thereby enhancing overall quality of life.

At its core, Panchakarma is especially effective for lifestyle-related disorders, those that stem from long-term exposure to poor diet, stress, and unsupportive habits. Digestive health lies at the heart of Ayurvedic medicine, and as many imbalances originate in the digestive tract, Panchakarma is particularly well suited to address them.

Common chronic conditions supported by Panchakarma include:

Digestive issues: acidity, nausea, gas, bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, food sensitivities, yeast overgrowth

Energy-related conditions: lethargy, chronic fatigue (ME), fibromyalgia, long COVID

Autoimmune and inflammatory conditions: Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, eczema, psoriasis

Metabolic disorders: obesity, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome

Neurological issues: insomnia, anxiety, spasms, tremors, generalised pain, rigidity

Subclinical presentations: persistent symptoms without clear diagnosis

Seasonal imbalances and weakened immunity

Beyond therapeutic application, Panchakarma may also be undertaken for prevention and rejuvenation, a classical approach known as Rasayana. In this context, the treatments serve to rebuild vitality, strengthen immunity, and cultivate resilience across all levels of the system.

This rejuvenative process supports:

Enhanced stamina and energy

Hormonal and reproductive health

Improved immunity and resistance to seasonal pathogens

Greater adaptability to stress

Clarity of mind and emotional stability

Whether as a means of deep healing or as a ritual of renewal, Panchakarma remains a cornerstone of Ayurvedic care, awakening the body’s innate intelligence to restore harmony, strength, and sustained wellbeing.
"}},{"@type":"Question
What can I expect from the program?
@type":"Answer

This program offers a state-of-the-art Ayurvedic healing experience, thoughtfully curated by Jivita Ayurveda and unparalleled in the UK.

"}},{"@type":"Question
How to prepare?
@type":"Answer

Each detox program we offer is individually crafted, with the journey often beginning even before your arrival at the retreat. Following a thorough health assessment, you will receive personalised guidance to ensure that you are prepared to enter fully into the therapeutic process from the very first morning of your residential stay.

Arrival is scheduled for 1.30pm, with lunch served on-site. For those travelling from London or other locations by train, we are happy to assist with transfers from the nearest station, such as Crewkerne.

You can expect to enjoy nourishing, simple, and delicious meals, carefully designed to support detoxification. In preparation, we recommend that you begin to lighten your evening meals a few days before arrival. Kindly refrain from bringing snacks or food items, as adherence to our meal schedule is essential for the effectiveness of your healing process. Eating outside of this rhythm can disrupt the internal recalibration your body will be undertaking.

Pack comfortable, season-appropriate clothing for both day and night, as well as essential toiletries. Come with openness, curiosity, and readiness, a willingness to meet whatever arises with grace. Deep healing often involves the release of physical and emotional patterns that have been held in the tissues. These moments of release, while sometimes intense, are essential to restoring vitality, allowing energy to move freely, nourishment to be fully received, and toxins to be eliminated.

This retreat is your invitation to reset, restore, and return to wholeness. We look forward to welcoming you on this sacred journey.
"}},{"@type":"Question
Will I be able to come and go?
@type":"Answer

A retreat entails the creation of a healing sanctuary that shields the bodymind from the routines and stressors that typify our everyday lives.

"}},{"@type":"Question
With which conditions can panchakarma assist?
@type":"Answer

@type":"Answer

This program offers a state-of-the-art Ayurvedic healing experience, thoughtfully curated by Jivita Ayurveda and unparalleled in the UK. At its heart lies a commitment to delivering a deeply embodied, clinically authentic, and spiritually nourishing retreat, grounded in the timeless principles of Ayurveda and held in the gentle embrace of nature.

Each aspect of the retreat is carefully personalised to meet the individual needs of every guest, ensuring that your journey toward balance and vitality is both effective and meaningful.

Additional therapeutic treatments are available upon request, allowing for a fully immersive and tailored experience.

Our venue, Wraxall Yard, is a purpose-built sanctuary designed with accessibility in mind, including full wheelchair access, making this retreat welcoming and inclusive for all. Nestled within one of Dorset’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the location invites guests to experience the serenity and inspiration of the countryside in its most tranquil form.

Here, amidst wild meadows, fresh air, and ancient rhythms, healing becomes not only possible but inevitable.
"}},{"@type":"Question
Why stay in UK and not go abroad?
@type":"Answer

"}},{"@type":"Question
How to prepare?
@type":"Answer

We encourage you to bring a lighthearted or inspirational book, something supportive and gentle on the mind. This is not a time for work or digital distractions, please prepare to minimise your online presence. Let family and friends know in advance that you’ll be on retreat, and ask them to only reach out in cases of true necessity.

We also encourage you to bring a journal for daily reflections, as this can be a powerful companion throughout your healing. Photos may be taken discreetly and respectfully, in accordance with our Terms & Conditions, and we invite you to share them only after your retreat concludes.

The healing process will unfold throughout the day with intention and care.

@type":"Answer

A retreat entails the creation of a healing sanctuary that shields the bodymind from the routines and stressors that typify our everyday lives.
Ayurvedic model of living mirrors the way humans were originally designed to live, in harmony with the environment. The balance of life depends on how well we adjust to the changing environment and the everyday context with its sensory stimuli and social interactions. The state of balance is called wellbeing and it’s marked by feelings of safety and comfort.

The art of Ayurvedic living is maintaining a degree of wellbeing in varying situations of life.

Good tolerance levels, emotional intelligence and resilience are cornerstones for productive and creative life where full human potential can manifest in a higher state of awareness. To achieve our potentials, we need to take positive action, every day with disciplined repetition. The effort we make for maintaining wellbeing resonates in the field of consciousness in a form of a reward, the value of which far exceeds the bother.

Ayurveda is a lifestyle choice to live according to the laws of nature because we do not live in the wilderness anymore where there was no choice but to live according to nature’s cycles. It is a decision and an effort to adhere to these laws by executing them along the course of life. However, the rewards are far, far greater than the efforts put into it.

Safety and Comfort

Wellbeing implies safety and comfort. When we are out of danger and in our own element, out of the fight, flight or freeze states, we manifest the best of ourselves. Our autonomic nervous system, the one that guides all physiology under the bonnet such as breathing and heartbeat, is able to manifest health, growth and restoration. Our bodymind becomes more intelligent in the game of adjustment to the changing world, the environment, the surrounding, the people. Internally the body is able to repair from wear and tear, recognise and discard forms and functions that do not belong there. Externally, it is able to adapt to every situation, be resilient towards the pressures from the environment and relate to other living beings and Nature from a place of loving kindness.

The Art of Ayurveda

Ayurveda provides a perfect model for finding safety and comfort. The healing principle of Ayurveda, the law of opposites, is the most common sense and practical model out there. The principle is the most basic concept that everyone can understand and put in practice.

The act of balancing through opposites is wired in our bodies and by that principle the body adjusts to the environment. When it’s hot we sweat, when it’s cold we shiver. When we feel dry we hydrate or moisturise. It is instinctive and it often goes unnoticed. However, we can harness the principle and use our intelligence to create wellbeing. That is what the art of Ayurveda is about. Observing feelings arising from the bodymind and if that feeling is uncomfortable then finding a way to balance that with an opposite feeling. Hot and cold, heavy and light, dry and moist and so on.

The aim of Ayurveda is to bring us to a place of safety and comfort by using the principle of opposites. Finding balance between two opposite ends of a spectrum, say hot and cold, means we find a place of safety and comfort somewhere along that line. The place on the line changes because sometimes we enjoy heat, sometimes we want to cool down.

Constructive interference

By the laws of physics, when two oscillators transmitting a wave of same frequency encounter, they waves amplify each other. This is called constructive interference. When we have a rhythmic natural routine in our lives and act from the place of wellbeing, we live in sync with the cosmic rhythms of Mother Nature. This affinity creates an amplified wave which impacts our experience of life. We feel more, we sense more, we are more detached from the objects of desire and the so-called happy coincidences start occurring more and more frequently. There is an elated feeling like someone is helping us on our journey of life and indeed, it is the Mother Nature paving the way. Her support is the great reward we make our efforts for.

Ayurvedic daily and seasonal routines might seem mundane in the context of transcendental experiences with Mother Nature. However, these little efforts we make to receive the gifts of the Goddess are powerful because they are the ones that create the rhythmic wave. The little things create big results and the resonance between us and the universe create larger than life experiences.

The Grace of Mother Nature

The gifts of Mother Nature are abundant. However, she wants us to show we’re worth it.
Yoga and Ayurveda complement each other perfectly, but have you asked why? There are a couple of points to make but one of the main commonalities is that they both aim at helping us acting in the present. In the now we make better decisions and are able to judge the situation for what it is. The power is in the now like the famous Mr Tolle says.

MINDFUL DECISIONS

For successful judgements, or we could call them “yogic” decisions, we need a state of mindfulness so that we act from a place of relative objectivity and understanding that everything is contextual. Nothing can be judged as absolute. Anything can be good and anything can be equally bad, depending on the context.

Understanding relativity is essential if and when you live ayurvedically, especially regarding decisions on what you eat and do. Sometimes it’s good to eat spinach, sometimes not. Coffee brightens your day today and tomorrow it gives you jitters. Being in the now is very important when it comes to choosing what to eat because there’s nothing like the present moment to define the nutritional value.

FEELING YOUR FOOD

To understand the value of our food we need to connect with the present moment and see how food feels like in the when we consume it and moreover, how our bodymind feels like. Sounds a bit fuzzy as a concept but I’ll give you an easy example. If you feel cold you probably feel like having a hot drink rather than a cold one. Cooling drinks are nice when you quickly need to lower down the heat, for example after a run. This concept can be taken very far in everything we eat or do. If you feel lethargic, a nice walk or even a visit at a gym will spark up your day whilst moving on the spectrum between slow and fast

If there is a match between opposite feelings, then food has a potential of being healthy. No need for nutritional labels or counting calories. We just need to focus on what the body is telling and what sensory messages the food in question provides.

BACK TO THE NOW

But, let me take you back to what I started writing about, about being in the NOW. There is a connection, mind you, and it is because when you are in the now, you are able to connect with feelings that come through sensory experiences. When you are in the now, you feel. When you are not in the now you plan the future or contemplate the past. Or worse, worry about future or ruminate on the past. That’s when the mind takes the primary role. When you let yourself feel, you immediately take charge of the present moment.

In a yogic model the aim in our everyday life is to slow down the mind, expressed in the Sanskrit frase chitta vritti nirodah. Once you step into the now and start feeling life in the present, you’ve achieved your yogic goal. You might think this is difficult. Fortunately, it is super easy. The difficult thing is to remember doing it, staying in the present.

Not to worry! Here’s how to do it and you can easily learn how to be present, even if you don’t consider being “into yoga”:

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO BE IN THE NOW

Deliberately slow down your movements for just a notch. Talk, walk, type or whatever, do it a bit slower and you are in the present. It’s that simple.

Start by choosing one activity of your choice that you carry out every day, no matter what, like dressing up, or making a cup of tea or that typing. Keep slowness going and you’ll notice that, as if by magic, you gain time because all the faffing around is gone. Secondly, you remember things because you are present in what you do. Then you start increasing in productivity and creativity as a result of a controlled thought processes.

Try, it’s fun and such a revelation!

Safron Season

My daughter brought me a beautiful purple crocus from the park. It had a the sweet and light fragrance of saffron. I remembered the times I’ve dreamt about being a farmer in the Mediterranean and particularly a crocus farmer…. My daughter almost got a bollocking for picking up that beauty, instead I let the good will prevail secretly wanting her to keep bringing me flowers for years to come.

The point here is not my daughter but the crocuses. They sign the new season with their delicate presence, pushing upwards the symmetry of their petals. Spring is here when we see nature waking up. The trees start pushing buds for their leaves and sudden warmth surprises us after the last effort of the ending winter. No reminders of the icy days just a week or two ago. Instead, we have flower power in the park and people finally smiling in hope of the pandemic is ending soon.

So, back to the crocus, why is it growing just now? Why does it want to push its leaves through the snow, mud and cold spring air? If we study the crocus a bit closer, we find it has something very particular inside the petals. The stamen of the crocus is called saffron, the spice more precious than gold. Saffron in North West London! Have no doubts, the ones in Queen’s Park won’t be from a subspecies that would make it worth go saffron digging in hope of great rewards, still, their beautiful fragrance and deserves our appreciation.

Saffron is precious not only because it has a strong flavour and fragrance. It is a highly medicinal plant against all seasonal spring disorders, especially mucous. It is a powerful remedy because it is good for all body types. Even if it is a warming spice it is still a powerful anti-inflammatory. In Sansrkit this herb is called cumcuma and has a particularly holy place in the eastern rituals. The bindi, the dot on the third eye, is often made out of saffron.

Saffron is a strong blood and liver purifier. After the winter we need to clear the pathways that allow us to detoxify the excess we’ve kept on in winter. Liver purification always reflects on our skin. Even if is applied directly on the skin it maintains its medicinal properties and therefore is one of the most used herbs in beauty industry.

Saffron is a fertility herb and reproductive tonic. Generally, all deeply red products of nature are this, such as pomegranate. Try the combo of three reds of cranberries, rose and saffron decoction / tea for urinary tract infection.

Like all plants and herbs that grow in spring, crocus and its saffron stamens lighten up the body, they pull excess liquids out (diuretic), scrape fat and mucous and relax the mind. As a tonic for the mind saffron has been used throughout the time. You should, however, make sure you get a good quality saffron. The spice industry is full of false promises of ethically sourced, organic and pure single sourced products so be mindful where you buy. Expensive herbs are particularly susceptible for cuts and mixes. I heard once that they it is a practice sometimes to put other fragranced stamens or even plastic pieces in the mix with real crocus stamens for increasing the profits. That said, You are most probably going be more safe buying organic than non-organic. I personally use Steenberg’s herbs saffron.

Saffron grown in this season because it provides medicine for the earthlings during this period of scarcity. Its qualities or attributes of light, dry, mobile, astringent and pungent make it a perfect balancer for cold, heavy and slow spring weather.

Spring is also a time to fast in order to boost the detoxification process naturally occurring for wild animals and indigenous humans who live in nature. Scarcity of spring can be tough but necessary to clear the system and fortify the liver for the times of abundance ahead. I recommend you do one, two or more days a week by skipping your supper and replacing it with this delicious cardamon and saffron mylk. You should use a plant based milk and preferably one that is not made out of nuts. Nuts are autumn and winter food. Lighter options sync better with the season. Some light fat is necessary for this drink to be satiating to replace a whole meal. These fats do not get stored but used cleverly for our metabolic function and especially fat removal. Believe it or not, you need to have fat to remove fat!

As regards honey in this drink, add it only when it is palatable. Never add honey in a hot drink or you lose the benefits of it. Honey, saffron and cardamom are some of the best ingredients to guide our bodies to do exactly what they should in spring: detoxify.

1 cup of organic oat or rice milk

1 tsp ghee / coconut oil

3 pods cardamom

Pinch of saffron

Honey to taste

Heat up all ingredients except honey in a pot and let stay on a very low fire for 20min then mix in a blender to transfer fat into foam. Once blended the temperature should have come down to a palatable level. Then add honey and enjoy your supper!
